Mold is common in bathrooms as the conditions are perfect for growing, with all the humidity, warm air, and moisture that accumulate in the area. Just because it is common doesn't mean that you should just let it be.

#1: Get Rid of the Mold

First, you need to get rid of the mold. You are going to want to clean the space with an antifungal surface cleaner. You will want to spray the cleaner directly onto the surface or onto a cleaning sponge. You are going to want to wipe down all non-porous surfaces, and you will want to scrub any areas with harder stains. You should be able to remove most of the mold this way, but you may still have some dark stains in place.

#2: Get Rid of the Stains

Second, you are going to want to get rid of the stains that mold can leave behind. Stains are often left behind. To get rid of the stains, you will want to mix together equal parts bleach and water. Be sure to wear clothing that you are okay with getting damaged with bleach. Spray it onto the stain and allow the mixture to sit on the stain for a while. Then come back and scrub the area. Repeat until the discoloration is gone.

#3: Kill Mold Spores

Third, you are going to want to kill mold spores as well. Take a spray bottle and fill it with vinegar. Spray the vinegar on all surfaces where there was mold and all surrounding areas. Allow the vinegar to dry; don't wipe it down. This will help to kill off any mold spores that are still present in the bathroom.

#4: Install an Exhaust Fan

Fourth, you will want to install an exhaust fan in the bathroom if you don't have one already. The exhaust fan will help remove moisture from your bathroom, which will help to prevent future mold growth. You should run the exhaust fan for several minutes after you take a shower or bath to dry out the air.

#5: Use Vinegar Regularly

Fifth, you are going to want to keep vinegar on hand. You should spray it in the bathroom after you shower and allow it to air dry to kill mold spores regularly. Vinegar has a strong smell to it, so you are going to want to add some essential oils, such as peppermint or lavender, to the mixture as well.

If you have mold in your bathroom, you need to kill the mold, remove the stains, and eliminate mold spores. Use an exhaust fan and vinegar to keep mold from returning to your bathroom.
